Which UTP Cable wire gauge should i choose? AWG24, AWG26 or AWG28

When purchasing a Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6a Ethernet cable, different vender might offer UTP cable with different AWG (America Wire Gauge). What is AWG and which AWG should I choose?

AWG = American Wire Gauge.
This number is derived from the number of drawing dies that are needed to manufacture a certain cross-section. The larger the AWG number, the smaller the wire diameter, The smaller the AWG number, the larger the wire diameter, the larger the diameter of a wire, the less electrical resistance for the signal. The AWG24 cable with less electrical resistance than AWG28 cable.
Based on values from AWG wire sizes, AWG24 data cable with copper strands 7 x Ø0.20mm tinned = 0.22mm2. it with less resistance, allowing the signal to travel farther. Less resistance also generates less heat. A 24 AWG network cable will offer less resistance than an AWG26 or AWG28 network cable.

However, in the market, there is some slim type of cat 5e, cat6, and cat 6aa data cable, they are normally with thinner conductors and by AWG28 cable, it can save the space of the data center, but it might limit the transmission distance of the network. If the whole cable link is not too long, the slim cable is an ideal solution for the high-density data center.

So choose wisely based on your actual data center application. any difficulty of select the right cable, feel free to contact TARLUZ. we shall help you to choose the right data cable for your network.
