Jede Farbe des Lichtes wird einer bestimmten Frequenz der elektromagnetische Welle zugeordnet. Durch die Verwendung unterschiedlicher Farben (Frequenzen) lassen sich auf einem Lichtwellenleiter mehrere Datenkan\u00e4le unabh\u00e4ngig voneinander betreiben. Diese Methode entspricht dem Prinzip des Frequenzmultiplexverfahrens. Wobei die Wellenl\u00e4nge mit der Frequenz vergleichbar ist.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wellenl\u00e4ngenmultiplex-Systeme (WDM) werden in Glasfasernetzen eingesetzt, um die Transportkapazit\u00e4ten auf wirtschaftliche Weise zu erh\u00f6hen. Anstatt weitere Kabel zu verlegen reicht es aus, wenn schneller getaktete Systeme oder mehr Farben verwendet werden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DWDM &#8211; Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Als \u00dcbertragungstechnik dient DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing). Es ist ein rein optisches Multiplexsystem. Mit DWDM werden mehrere Signale mit unterschiedlicher Wellenl\u00e4nge (spektrale Farben) parallel in den Lichtwellenleiter eingespeist. Die Signale unterscheiden sich in ihrer Farbe. Jede Farbe hat eine eigene Wellenl\u00e4nge und steht f\u00fcr einen virtuellen \u00dcbertragungskanal. Das physische Medium ist die Glasfaser.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Auf der Ausgangsseite befinden sich Farbfilter, die nur genau definierte Wellenl\u00e4ngen (Frequenzen) des Lichts (Farbspektrum) durchlassen. Pro Wellenl\u00e4nge und Faser k\u00f6nnen in der Praxis Geschwindigkeiten bis 100 GBit\/s erreicht werden. Theoretisch k\u00f6nnte man mit DWDM weit \u00fcber 1 TBit\/s \u00fcbertragen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die Weiterentwicklung dieser Technik kommt aber nur langsam voran.
