A 1&#215;2 MPO-8\/APC multimode fiber patch cord can activate two of the four lanes inside a 400G optical module (i.e., 4 fibers out of the 8 fibers), effectively enabling the 400G module to operate as a 200G device. This solution is primarily used for interconnecting switches, such as connecting leaf nodes to spine nodes, and spine nodes to the core layer.
