Las tecnolog\u00edas xDSL se basan en la multiplexaci\u00f3n de la se\u00f1al de voz que discurre por el cable de pares telef\u00f3nico, y la se\u00f1al de datos aprovechando el espectro superior de este medio de transmisi\u00f3n que antes no se utilizaba. Es decir, consiste en la conversi\u00f3n de la l\u00ednea telef\u00f3nica anal\u00f3gica convencional en una l\u00ednea digital de alta velocidad, lo que conlleva unos menores costes de inversi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El acceso DSL m\u00e1s conocido para dar el servicio de Internet de banda ancha en el \u00e1mbito residencial es el ADSL, siendo el espectro del par de cobre el siguiente:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4129\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tarluz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Frecuencias-de-los-canales-de-transmisi\u00f3n-en-ADSL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"637\" height=\"189\" \/>A pesar de la magn\u00edfica ventaja de no tener que realizar un nuevo despliegue al poder reutilizar el cable de pares ya desplegado para el servicio telef\u00f3nico, esta tecnolog\u00eda tiene dos limitaciones relevantes, ambas debidas al medio de transmisi\u00f3n, que han provocado que los operadores buscasen otros medios de despliegue. Estos inconvenientes son:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">La distancia de enlace del bucle de abonado o red de acceso.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">La escasa velocidad de transmisi\u00f3n del sistema, limitada en gran medida por la distancia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los abonados de tecnolog\u00edas xDSL que no est\u00e9n relativamente cerca de la central (t\u00edpicamente a menos de un kil\u00f3metro) no pueden disfrutar de velocidad superiores a los 10Mbps. Debido a esto, se han buscado soluciones consistentes en el empleo de fibra \u00f3ptica, aunque siempre intentando conservar la mayor cantidad de red de cable de pares existente. Se hace as\u00ed, puesto que la fibra \u00f3ptica constituye el medio f\u00edsico con mejores prestaciones existente en la actualidad para paliar la problem\u00e1tica causada con el escaso ancho de banda y con los problemas de la distancia.
