The main reasons for optical port contamination and damage include:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">The optical port of the module is exposed to the environment, leading to dust ingress and contamination.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">The end face of the fiber optic connector used is already contaminated, causing secondary contamination of the optical module&rsquo;s optical port.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Improper use of the connector end face on pigtailed fibers, e.g., scratches on the end face.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Use of inferior quality fiber optic connectors.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Effective protection against optical module failure mainly involves ESD protection and physical protection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><strong>ESD Protection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">ESD damage is a major issue that can degrade the performance of optical components or even cause complete loss of optoelectronic functionality. Moreover, optical components damaged by ESD are difficult to test and screen, and failures can be hard to quickly locate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><strong>Operating Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">During transport and transfer before use, optical modules must remain in their ESD-protective packaging and must not be removed or placed arbitrarily.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Before touching an optical module, it is mandatory to wear ESD gloves and an ESD wrist strap. Therefore, physical protection should be observed during transport and use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Optical port contaminants can be gently wiped with a cleaning swab. Non-dedicated cleaning swabs may damage the optical port. Excessive force when using a cleaning swab may cause the metal in the swab to scratch the ceramic end face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">The insertion and extraction of optical modules are designed to simulate manual operation, with push and pull forces also mimicking human actions. Tools should not be used during installation or removal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><strong>Operating Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Handle optical modules with care to prevent dropping.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">When inserting an optical module, push it in by hand; do not use any metal tools.
