Im Zusammenhang mit einer Netzwerkverkabelung (Kupfer) m\u00fcssen unterschiedliche Normen ber\u00fccksichtigt werden. Die internationale ISO\/IEC 11801 und die europ\u00e4ische EN 50173 Norm sind nahezu gleich und unterscheiden, im Gegensatz zur amerikanischen Norm TIA\/EIA 568, zwischen Kategorie und Klassen.<\/p>\n

Die Kategorie (Cat 5, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Cat 7 etc.) beschreibt, nach welchen Methoden und Werten die Einzelkomponenten zu pr\u00fcfen sind. Schaltet man nun Produkte gleicher oder unterschiedlicher Kategorien zusammen, so entsteht eine Klasse, welche die \u00dcbertragungsgeschwindigkeit definiert. Hier ist wichtig zu ber\u00fccksichtigen, dass die Komponente der geringsten Kategorie die Klasse bestimmt.<\/p>\n

Grob zusammengefasst zeigt die Tabelle, dass Cat 5 Komponenten zur Klasse D werden und eine Grenzfrequenz von 100 MHz erreichen, w\u00e4hrend Cat.6 Komponenten eine Klasse E Verkabelung ergeben und Bandbreiten von bis zu 1 Gbit\/s erreichen.
