Coherent Optical Module: 400G QSFP-DD ZR/ZR+ Optical Module

In the era of explosive AI computing power and 5G-A, network traffic is surging, placing immense pressure on optical networks. Traditional non-coherent optical modules, with their low bandwidth and simple modulation methods, can no longer meet the demands of high-speed, long-distance, and high-density transmission. With the continuous maturation of key technologies such as digital signal processing and optical device manufacturing, coherent optical modules are capable of supporting higher transmission rates and longer transmission distances, offering excellent performance and broad application potential.

What is a Coherent Optical Module?

A coherent optical module is a type of optical module that utilizes the principle of coherent light (in the field of optics, this refers to light waves with the same frequency and a fixed phase relationship) to conduct signal transmission and processing. This type of optical module supports complex modulation and demodulation as well as signal processing operations, and it has a high signal-to-noise ratio and excellent interference resistance, making it highly suitable for the application needs of long-distance, high-capacity optical communication systems.

Application Scenarios

Data Center Interconnection: The 400G QSFP-DD ZR/ZR+ optical module connects two 400G-capable switches (e.g., Cisco Nexus 9000 or Juniper PTX) via dual-core LC single-mode fiber patch cords, enabling transmission distances of up to 120 kilometers.

Metro Network: The single module covers full rates from 100G to 400G, and in the 400ZR+ mode, it can achieve direct connection without repeaters over a distance of 450 kilometers.

Ultra-Long Distance: In the 100G mode, the transmission distance can reach up to 2,000 kilometers, making it suitable for ultra-long-distance scenarios such as national backbone networks and cross-border links.
